My great grandparents were Grant and Catherine Wright. My grand parents were Levi “Lee” and Julia Wright. I received the “The Wright’s Generation Family Reunion 2008” booklet and was introduced to a family rich with history. I love this web site and look forward to it’s updates.

This is great Powell family history! Actually, I’m trying to find a relative by the name of Julia McDuffie Powell, who was born in Rowland, NC around 1882, the youngest daughter of Annie and Wiley (aka Wilie) McDuffie. Wiley was an affluent, mulatto enterpreneur who lost his life trying to help African-American men relocate to Laurinburg, NC, because they could make more money. At on point in time, the McDuffies owned in excess of 250 acres of land near Mt. Pelier Presbyterian Church in Rowland, NC. “Aunt Julia” married a man from Bladen County in the early 1900’s, before moving to Durham, NC. She died in Durham, NC in the late 60’s, but she left behind a daughter (Sarah) and a son (Melvin) who are now both deceased. I have no further information on her. Did she marry one of your relatives? Do you know the DcDuffies of Rowland?Thank you,Martha Cooley Baker

I stumbled on this website by accident but what a wealth of information. I’m saddened to know that the one who started this website is no longer with us. I do hope someone is continuing the work. I am very interested in the Powell family. I am a descendent of Gabriel and Julia through Sarah Powell. I am a granddaughter of Mattie Johnson daughter of Sarah Powell and Troy Johnson. I always knew that my grandmother was the daughter of Sarah Powell Johnson and Troy Johnson but that’s where it ended for me. We always held Sarah in high regard, I had an Aunt named Sarah Johnson Benjamin who was Sarah Powells granddaughter. I’ve also named my daughter Sarah for the both of them. This website has been such a blessing for me. I just discovered it today, 5/12/08, at 5 PM. I’m interested in a Powell Family Reunion if there is one and all the information I can get about the Powell family. I live in Chesapeake, VA. I spent the first 12 years of my life in Bladen County and some of the names are familiar and I know some of Sophie Jane’s and Ann Powell McDuffie’s children, but I did not know that we were related that closely.

Extraordinary, that someone would dare to travel backwards to gleen such rich history of our roots. I am the daughter of the late Samuel Woodrow McNeill (he died in 1993) whose mother was Tero McNeill Chance (Autry)(she died in 1973). I live in Maryland and was born in 1954.

My son, Gary is an African American Studies major at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL. He is very much interested in his Autry family history. The work that has been done by Allen is mind-boggling! I have been searching and searching because on yesterday, I stumbled across an obituary in our Jacksonville, FL paper of a Crafton L. Autry who was originally from Autryville, N.C. I was determined to find something concerning our people. My son will be so pleased about Allen Omega.com. Please continue his legacy of love. There is so much to learn and so much to pass on to the future generations. We would be interested in knowing about any family reunions. There are a great deal of Autrys ain Noortheast FL and Georgia.

I was internet surfing and decided to google the name Braxton Autry, who is my paternal grandfather This website came up, much to my surprise. My grandmother’s name is Daisy as well. After reading some of the entries, I discovered that two of my first cousins have signed in, Loise Smith and Bernice leonard. All of the information that I have received about our paternal grandparents have come from Louise and Bernice. My father never spoke of his father at all only to say that he had a lot of brothers and sisters. From my understanding, my father put the “e” in Autrey, but the original spelling of the family surname is Autry. My sister and I would like to know a lot more about my father’s side of the family and my cousins, my history! Thanks for starting this website

It sadden my heart to know thathe is no longer with us, however he did tell me when we last talked that he had giving his life to the lord. I don’t know how many days I’ve come back to this site since July 2006 but, I regret not knowing more about “Flick” during his lifetime. This is amazing work and I will feel forever blessed to have the opportunity to learn this much about my family’s past. This is so rare for African Americans. It gives me more power to live the life I know I should, one of pride and of faith. I only pray that myself and/or my contemporaries will find the wisdom and motivation to continue recording our rich family history. Thanks to all who are involved. Most of all, thank you Flick.

I was trying to do some research on my husbands family. My name is Gabriele Powell, what a coincident. My maiden name is Sailer (I’m German 1st generation). I met my husband, Ozell Powell, Jr.in Germany where he was stationed. I have read all the family histery that you have worked on. Very impressive. I’m sorry I can’t give you much help. But I was hoping maybe you could help me. I have no experience in genialigy. But the pictures on your website are very interesting to me. It seems like I might detect some similar facial features to the ones of my in-laws. I’m wondering if your family is in deed related to my husbands family. I hope you find the time to write me back.Thank you for your time.
